Steven Benbrook is a Registered Nurse with clinical experience across medical, surgical, palliative, primary health, and community care settings. He joined the University of the Sunshine Coast in 2022, contributing to the delivery of simulation-based learning in the Simulated Learning Environments (SLEs) and supporting nursing students during their Professional Experience Placements (PEP) as a Clinical Facilitator. In 2024, he was appointed Associate Clinical Educator in Nursing, where he supports the delivery of high-quality placement experiences for nursing students. Steven is passionate about building strong industry partnerships to bridge the gap between academic preparation and clinical practice, ensuring students are well-equipped for the realities of contemporary healthcare.

As part of his role, Steven teaches into Clinical Connections, a course designed to support students returning to placement after a gap in practice. Drawing on his diverse clinical background, he adopts a practical and student-focused approach to education. He is committed to creating inclusive, supportive, and collaborative learning environments that build student confidence and clinical competence. He is currently involved in research exploring the experiences and benefits of student participation in this course.

Steven also has a keen interest in healthy ageing and is an active member of the University’s Healthy Ageing Research Cluster. He is currently engaged in research on the recognition of dementia in residential aged care settings.

He is a member of the Australian College of Nursing (ACN) and the Gerontological Alliance of Nurses Australia (GANA).
